Boilerplate

One line

Above You turns the sky over your head into something you can read — every aircraft with its transponder on, where it came from, where it is going, and when the ISS will next pass over.

Short paragraph

Above You is a free mobile app that shows the aircraft passing over you in real time. It merges positions from several open networks of volunteer ADS-B receivers, de-duplicates them by each aircraft's ICAO address, and presents them as a live list and a pannable world map. Tap an aircraft and you get its route drawn across the map, a photograph of that specific airframe credited to the photographer who took it, and altitude, speed and heading that update once a second. It also predicts the next visible pass of the International Space Station, computed on the device. There is no account and no analytics SDK; the app is free and supported by advertising, with a consent flow in the regions that require one and a rewarded video that removes full-screen ads for a day.

What makes it different

  • Nothing is invented. Where a route, a photograph or an aircraft type cannot be established, the field is left out rather than filled with a plausible guess.
  • Multiple sources, merged rather than chained. Several receiver networks are queried in parallel and merged on the ICAO 24-bit address, so a quiet network never empties the sky and no aircraft is ever listed twice.
  • Privacy is structural, not a promise. There is no account to attach data to, positions are never written to a database, and the device never contacts the upstream data networks directly.
  • Declining location is a real option. The world map, the aircraft on it and every reference screen work without a position.

Logo

The mark reads from the bottom up: the horizon you stand on, the dot that is you, and two chevrons climbing away. Please do not recolour it, rotate it, add effects, or place it on a busy photograph. Keep clear space around it of at least the height of the lower chevron.

Credit where it is due

Above You is built on the work of others and says so plainly: flight positions come from open community receiver networks run by volunteers, aircraft photographs from public spotter archives, and satellite orbital elements from public sources. Please credit them in any coverage that reproduces their data.
